Aussie Influencer Kat Clark has been spotted wearing a white floral dress to her friend’s wedding.
The 38-year-old social media sensation was surprised when people started commenting that her dress was “disrespectful” to wear to someone else’s wedding.
“The cat! Why are you wearing a white dress when the bride is wearing a white dress? Isn’t that a bit disrespectful,” one commented.
“The white dress?” Another was asked.
“Isn’t anyone going to talk about how she’s wearing white?” Someone else asked.
The relatively simple dress started a surprisingly big debate.
One described the white dress as “rude” and another person argued that it was fine because a colorful floral print took up most of the dress.
“I would be upset if someone had that much white. It’s a stunning dress though,” claimed one.
“Wear what you want!” Another encouraged.
“I personally think the dress is fine; if it was all white it would probably be a problem, but the color and flowers make it pop,” argued another.
Clark, who has over 700,000 followers on Instagram, even took a poll to ask if her outfit was appropriate for the wedding, and over 70 percent of her followers said it was fine.
She told news.com.au she was “surprised” the outfit started a debate because she didn’t think it was a controversial wardrobe choice.
It was a strapless floral dress that hung below her knee. If anything, it was almost a conservative choice of clothing.
“My understanding is that if someone is wearing white, it would be considered rude because you could be mistaken for the bride,” she said.
Clark was shocked to find that people objected to a wedding dress she hadn’t even thought about.
It wasn’t like she showed up in a ball gown.
“I didn’t realize that some people would be offended if parts of my dress were white,” she said.
Clark said the backlash wasn’t “fair” and people should calm down and not accuse her of being rude about anything.
“The dress was obviously floral and looked nothing like a wedding dress. “Big bright white flowers on the dress are not offensive wedding attire,” she said.
“The bride didn’t care at all. She actually texted me and said how beautiful my dress was.”
Clark even posted a screenshot of a text message exchanged between her and the bride, which confirmed that she wasn’t bothered by her dress.
“What you wore was simply stunning and I wasn’t offended for a second,” she promised.
