Ex-McDonald’s chef reveals why all-day breakfast was axed – and fans are outraged

A former McDonald’s employee has revealed why the chain stopped a service everyone loved.

Mike Haracz, who worked at the Golden Arches until 2019, revealed in a new TikTok why the fast food chain no longer serves breakfast all day.

Responding to a comment that said “I thought the pandemic killed all-day breakfast,” Haracz stated, “I bet McDonald’s is happy you thought the pandemic killed all-day breakfast, but it didn’t at all.”

According to the former chef, McD’s wanted to get rid of the offer “well before” the pandemic hit.

“The thing about all-day breakfast is that it takes up real estate in the kitchen that could be used for lunch and dinner service,” he explained.

Between the food items as well as the kitchen services to be used for breakfast, he was using all the resources that could have been fully used for lunch and dinner.

“It was what they call an operational complex,” he said.

As much as customers wanted all-day breakfast, store owner-operators didn’t want to keep it going, he claimed.

“Consumers will show up regardless, and if they don’t have the limited-time menu item they want [eg: a hash brown]they’ll just order their regular order,” Haracz explained.

“McDonald’s wanted to be as profitable as possible,” he said. “That’s the answer.”

People in the comments still believed McDonald’s would be more profitable with the all-day breakfast option.

“I honestly went to McDonald’s a lot more when they had breakfast all day,” wrote one.

“I mean, McDonald’s breakfast is so much better than their regular food. They should only serve breakfast all the time and other food after 5pm,” said another.

Others noted that all-day breakfast is still a thing in Canada.

In 2020, McDonald’s said on X, formerly Twitter, that they “initially removed All Day Breakfast from the menu to streamline operations in our kitchens, which we found provided better speed of service and order accuracy for our customers.”

They added in the post at the time that they were “evaluating whether and how we will bring All Day Breakfast back to our menus.”
